The Best of Aberdares.......... Evocative Lifestyle!

Day 1: ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK
This morning at 9:00am, you depart for our tree Lodge. Aberdare lays around two high peaks, Kinangop and Lesatima. Breathtaking waterfalls, a fascinating and diverse plant world and gorgeous scenery make this national park both lovely and intriguing. This is the area for those who are keen to fish. Naro Moru, Thego and the Chania rivers, are renowned for fishing. The Aberdares are also remembered as the guerilla base of Kenyan heroes during their war for independence from the British. The Kimathi Hideout / Mau Mau caves are found here. Two of Kenya's best safari lodges: Treetops and The Ark are located here and they both provide excellent game viewing over the watering hole which is floodlight by night. Large numbers of buffalo, black rhinos, elephant, colubus monkeys, leopard, bush pig and warthog are found in the forests. The birding is excellent! The Aberdares even has a Hollywood connection. This is where the film "Gorillas in the Mist", starring Sigourney Weaver, was made. Perhaps even more famously, although rather longer ago, it was to Treetops, that the news of her father's death, and her succession to the throne, was brought to the then Princess Elizabeth. Check-in at Outspan Hotel and they will transport you to the Tree Lodge. Dinner and overnight at Treetops Lodge (Full Board)

Day 2: SWEETWATERS GAME SANCTUARY
This morning you are transferred back to the Outspan where you will meet your driver. Today you travel to the exotic Sweetwaters Game Reserve, now “Ol Pejeta Conservancy” a 90,000 acre private ranch between the foot hills of the Abedares and the magnificent snowcapped Mount Kenya. The combination of amazing wildlife and stunning views across the open plains guarantees an unforgettable safari experience!
Sweetwaters Tented Camp set in the pristine calm of the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy offers a charming blend of under-canvas ambiance and safari luxury.
Its popular waterhole is floodlit by night, providing excellent game viewing including the big five. The reserve comprises extensive savannah grasslands and the riverine forests that border the Ewaso Nyiro River. Sweetwaters excels in private game viewing and is Mt Kenya region’s best kept secret. Game rides on horseback or perched atop camels within the sanctuary is a unique experience. You will spend the entire day exploring the ranch.

In the afternoon visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a 200 acre was opened in 1993 in a negotiated agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute. The facility was initially established to receive and provide life-long refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from west and central Africa. An initial group of three chimpanzee orphans were brought to the sanctuary from a facility in Bujumbura, Burundi in 1993. This group of chimpanzees needed to be evacuated due to the outbreak of civil war in Burundi. A gentle and charming diversion for children and adults alike, it offers visitors the unique opportunity of taking a boat ride on the Ewaso Nyiro River, which flows through the centre of the sanctuary where 26 orphaned chimps enjoy the peace and harmony of their natural environment. The sanctuary is open daily from 9:00am to 10:30am and 3:00pm to 4:30pm. Dinner and overnight at Sweetwater’s Tented Camp (Full Board)
