Hell’s Gate National Park
Hell's Gate National Park is a tiny park located south of Lake Naivasha and it’s an ideal venue for weekend retreat away from urban life of Nairobi.
The diversity of its topography provides for spectacular cliff and gorge walks and incredible geological scenery. The park's rock formations attract a large volume of rock climbing enthusiasts with the famous Fischer's Tower, the Central Tower and the Njorowa gorge being the star attractions. Obsidian, a striking black glassy rock formed from cooled molten lava is also a feature of this landscape.
The Olkaria Geothermal Station, the first of its kind in Africa, was established in 1981 and generates geothermal power underneath Hell's Gate from the area's hot springs and geysers.
Game includes eland, buffalo, lion, giraffe, zebra, leopard, impala, klipspringer, thomson gazelle, grants, rock hyrax and mountain reedbuck. There are over 100 species of birds in the park including vultures, verreaux's eagles, augur buzzard, swifts and ostrich. The Park is an eagle and vulture breeding ground.
