Macmillan Castle.......... Secret Affair!

After breakfast depart to an old house close to the Fourteen Falls, the Macmillan Castle is a landmark to behold. This 32-roomed castle single-storied, with underground bunkers was built in the early 1900s by Macmillan who came to Kenya for big game hunting and farming. It was here that American President Roosevelt lost his presidency after ruffling feathers with the Indian community while accompanying Macmillan from Grogan’s house at Chiromo. The house was gazetted in Kenya on 19th December, 2008 and plans of turning it into a museum are underway.
On one side of the floor is a lid which, on lifting, reveals a wooden ladder leading to an underground room where secret meetings were held. The dark room is occupied with debris and tiny hovels and Sir Evelyn Baring’s bunker. He was the Governor of Kenya from 1952 to 1959 during the Mau Mau Uprising. Macmillan’s Castle was a scene for scandals, affairs and wife-swapping parties.
MacMillan and his wife were great philanthropists. They later established the MacMillan Library in Nairobi's Central Business District in 1931. The library features a wide collection of books and other publications as well as being home to parliamentary archives.

Thereafter visit the "Fourteen Falls" which is a popular picnic site. 14 falls are so named because there are 14 distinct waterfalls on the broad section of the famous Athi River. Once at fourteen falls, a local guide will lead you down a rocky path to the near side base of the falls where you get a boat for crossing the river. The experienced boat guides use a long pole, guiding the boat on a leisurely ride downstream, back upstream and across the river to a rocky bank on the far side. The view of the falls from the boat is extraordinary! You may spend a couple of hours strolling around the rocks at the base of the falls and enjoy the fresh air, breathtaking view and local flora. The base of the falls is characterized by powerful sound of rushing water as it cascades down the 25-foot drop. There are lots of birds. The guides also entertain visitors by performing jumps (they call it 'diving') from the top of the falls plunging into the pool below. Lunch at the Blue Posts Hotel, established in 1908 as a stopover for white settlers who farmed and lived in central Kenya. While at Blue Post visit the Chania falls. Thereafter, you will be driven back to Nairobi. You are transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your outbound flight.
