Mombasa City Tour
The colorful island town of Mombasa with its blend of ancient and modern buildings on the Indian Ocean is Kenya principal port and the country's second's largest city. Today you will tour the Arab Old Town, with its
maze of narrow twisting alleys displaying the beautiful carved doors and Arab verandas, bazaars with curio and antique shops, Akamba wood carvers and enjoy a shopping expedition at Mwembe Tayari open-air market. Then drive past Mombasa’s State House, Kilindini Harbour, the giant “elephant tusks” (commemorating the Royal visit of Princess Margaret in 1957).
The highlight of the tour is probably the visit to Fort Jesus built in 1593 by the Portuguese to guard the entrance to the Old Dhow Harbor, it is the Island's Landmark. Four hundred years old, the fort still stands
and serves as a historical museum. Fort Jesus offers a panoramic view of the Old Town.
Travel back through thousands of years with a visit to Fort Arab dhows that have sailed from Arabia by Monsoon Winds carrying their wares just as they did thousands of years ago.
You will then be transferred onto the bow of the Tamarind Dhow, “The Nawalikher”, meaning “gateway to heaven”.
You will be greeted by a smiling waiter who will answer all your questions, and always bring the history of Mombasa alive! Enjoy a drink aboard while cruising on the calm waters of Tudor Creek. Fantastic lunch prepared by the world famous Tamarind Restaurant is enjoyed while a local band plays music to suit all tastes. A trio-lingual guide, fully ticked bar and friendly service all adds to the unforgettable atmosphere. Vegetarian meals are also available upon request.
Afternoon visit Mamba Village, a haven of reptiles (Africa’s largest Crocodile Farm). Mamba Village is a very renowned tourist attraction in Mombasa. It combines crocodile farming, conservation, and ecosystem
friendly quarry. A tour of the farm starts with a movie on the life cycle and behavior of crocodiles, followed by a comprehensive tour of the rest of farm, and ends with the highlight: a spectacular scene of blood-thirsty crocodiles fighting for food during feeding time at 5:00pm. Excellent cuisine is available at the Mamba Restaurant, superbly grilled crocodile meat. Souvenirs of your visit can be bought at the Mamba Souvenir shop located within the village. Also in the farm are beautiful botanical gardens which are worthy to be given a visit. Thereafter you will drive back to your coastal hotel.
